Space for precision work and passion for technology

What makes working at SCHLEIFRING so special? We develop and manufacture high-tech components with which we constantly extend the limits of technical feasibility. This is not only challenging, it also sets trends for the future.

Current vacancies

At a glance: tasks and fields of activity in the SCHLEIFRING production

Machines: In the field of additive manufacturing, we work with four different printing processes. For this purpose, we have eight printers at our disposal.

Materials: We process materials such as PA6 / PA11 / PA12GB (Polyamide), TPU, ABS, ceramics, aluminum and copper.

Workpieces: A third of the parts manufactured are required for the development of new products. The other two thirds are used in our slip rings: for example, in the form of complex brackets, covers, fiber guides, housings or production resources.

Current vacancies

Turning

Machines:

  • One conventional lathe (without program / without automation)
  • Six NC cycle lathes (with program / without automation)
  • Two CNC turning/milling machines (with program and automatic tool changing / complete machining)

Materials: We are able to process and machine all aluminum alloys, stainless steels, alloy and non-alloy steels, non-ferrous metals (brass, copper, silver) as well as technical plastics.

Workpieces: We manufacture prototypes, pilot runs, small batches as well as series with medium-sized batches. The machining spectrum is large and ranges from the smallest machining size of Ø 0.8 x 10 mm to a maximum of Ø 880 x 1,460 mm.

Milling

Machines:

  • One conventional FP4 NC milling machine (programming on the machine)
  • Two five-axis CNC milling machines with pallet storage systems and external set-up stations (with program and automatic tool changing)
  • While machining one batch, the machines can be set up for the next batch by means of the external set-up station and the pallet storage system. This increases the spindle run time. The challenge when producing small batches is to optimize the set-up process.

Materials and workpieces: see Turning

Goal: We guarantee absolute precision – to the nearest μm. To achieve this, we supplement the tactile quality control by means of 3D coordinate measurement with surface roughness measurement and a visual inspection process. Because only perfect interaction between man and machine enables precision parts to be produced to the highest level of quality.

Machines:

  • One coordinate measuring machine – with integrated precision rotary table. Accuracy: 1μm +; measuring range: Ø 1100 x 1100 x 600 mm; additional equipment: integrated precision rotary table; software: Calypso
  • Three manually operated coordinate measuring systems: Keyence XM5000; Scan Max; Tesa height gauge
  • Six conventional measuring workstations

Inspection process: We document and sample prototypes and individual parts as well as complete series. For the final acceptance of a series, we first of all create an initial-sample test report on the actual/target state so that we can give the green light for series production. In addition, all parts are subjected to a visual inspection for damage, cracks and scratches. Most parts run through the quality control process several times in order to be able to react in good time during an intermediate inspection and during the final inspection.

Current vacancies

Workpieces: Modules are cylindrical parts with diameters ranging from 10 mm to approx. 800 mm made up of individual rings that are embedded in plastic in order to transmit data, signals and currents. The module production manufactures the centerpiece of ever slip ring: the module.

Process: The machining is performed using synthetic and natural diamonds in order to produce a flawless, mirror-like surface. In the final processing step, the module is refined with a layer of gold in order to improve the transmission quality and achieve a longer service life. As the module is essential for the slip ring’s function, we subject every module to a 100% inspection.

Materials:

  • Plastic
  • Brass
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Copper

Production areas:

  • Resistance spot welding
  • Foundry
  • Turning shop
  • Contact check
  • Optical module inspection

Current vacancies

Goal: The goal is to develop products from the prototypes to qualified series units. High-precision slip rings are produced in the assembly areas through teamwork and in compliance with all process instructions and standards.

Spectrum of tasks: The spectrum of tasks ranges from the pre- and final assembly of electromechanical components to electrical testing:

  • More than 220 different variants
  • Up to 3,000 individual parts
  • More than 1,000 soldered and crimped connections
  • Assembly time of up to eight weeks
  • Duration of inspection and customer approvals of up to two weeks

Goal: Production of high-tech products through precision, reliability and a sure hand.

Current vacancies

Goal: In this production area we perform electrical testing on the product in order to verify the characteristics specified in the inspection plan. Subsequently, product approval is also performed here with the customers.

Procedure: After the actual testing, the results are documented in such a way that they are clearly comprehensible. If faults are detected in the product, suitable corrective measures are initiated.

Current vacancies

We promote personal further development:

Every movement is perfect. You master your work and achieve results with the highest level of quality and precision. To enable you to achieve this level of perfection quickly and unerringly, in the SCHLEIFRING Academy we offer you practice-oriented training courses and professional qualifications.

Production training courses

You learn how to interpret and implement process instructions. Afterwards, you will know which work steps are to be performed in which sequence, with which tools or aids, and how to meet quality and safety standards.

In this module you deepen your knowledge of electrical test methods in order to guarantee the function and safety of cables.

Roller bearings connect two parts that move relative to each other and thus enable rotational movements. They also reduce friction and absorb forces. You learn how to correctly install roller bearings during an external training course.

Slip rings are often exposed to extreme environmental conditions. Sealing elements are thus critical for the quality and durability of our products. You learn everything there is to know about their installation in an external training course.

Using the latest adhesive technology, we permanently and safely connect our parts without causing mechanical damage. You learn how this works in this training module.

Soldering technology, especially soft soldering, plays a central role in our assembly. That is why we provide in-house training in soft soldering within the scope of a three-day training course. This is followed by a three-day external training course that ends with an examination and certification.

Insights into the production

Taking on responsibility means that you shape the future. As an international technology company, SCHLEIFRING relies on durable products, resource-conserving processes and a conscious team culture. Our goal: Innovation in harmony with the environment and society in general.

Industries in which we operate

In the aerospace sector, slip ring designs are subject to extreme conditions. The requirements on precision and technical reliability are thus correspondingly high. As a manufacturer, we develop bespoke slip rings together with our customers that meet these requirements.

To ensure progress in the medical sector, imaging techniques such as computer tomography are indispensable. Modern CT scanners generate huge amounts of data in order to produce high-resolution images. These are transmitted contactlessly, quickly and reliably by our CT slip rings designed specifically for this purpose – at up to 340 gigabits per second.

The more information, the higher the level of safety. This is the formula for success for slip rings in radar and reconnaissance systems, 360° surveillance systems and baggage scanners. We put this into practice by incorporating an increasing amount of technology in the same installation space in order to achieve improved performance and higher transmission rates.

Renewable energy generated by wind is one of the key components of the global energy transition. To ensure the efficiency of on- and offshore installations, quickly and precisely adjustable rotor blades are essential. Power and signals for this purpose are reliably transmitted by our high-precision wind turbine slip rings.

Industry’s requirements on slip rings and rotary joints are as wide-ranging as the processes themselves. Together with our customers, we develop suitable bespoke transmission solutions: whether contactless and maintenance-free, optimized for confined installation spaces, or contacting and inexpensive. It’s the goal that counts.
