The electrical slip ring, also known as rotary electrical joint, collector or
electric swivel, is an essential device which facilitates the supply of
power, the transmission of electrical signals from DC to High Frequency as
well as microwave, Databus-signals, optical signals as well as media
(compressed air, cooling fluids and other) from a rotating to a
stationary plane. Obviously the quality of the slip ring is a key
determinant in the quality of the overall system.

in the field of non-contacting high data rate signal transmission as well
as non-contacting power transmission.

The transmission of power, signals and data between a rotating and
a stationary plane is required in all areas of industrial design.
Fixed connections via cables can only be applied for systems with a
limited angle of rotation. For continuous rotation of 360 ° slip rings
or rotary joints are required.
Besides contacting slip rings for the transfer of low data rates
more and more non-contacting rotary joints are used, especially for
the transmission of digital data at high bit rates. These systems are
based on a worldwide patented capacitive non-contacting
transmission technology which at present allows transmission of data
rates from 100 MBit/s up to >10 GBit/s.
