October 06, 2009 the final hearing on the project "High field magnetic resonance tomography of the prostate – progress by coil arrays & navigation system" was held at GE Global Research, Garching. Along with GE Global Research, SCHLEIFRING und APPARATEBAU GmbH was involved in this joint project.
GE Global Research was represented by Manuela Abraham, Wolfgang Löw and Dr. Theodor Vetter, SCHLEIFRING und APPARATEBAU GmbH by Iris Metzner, Harry Schilling and Nils Krumme and IBN (Innovation Consulting Service Northern Bavaria) by Dr. Norbert Hums.
The project was co-funded with about 1 Mio € within the support program of the Bavarian research initiative “Leading Edge Medical Technology” (BayMED).
The intention of the project "Additive High Field Magnetic Resonance Tomography of the Prostate – Progress by Coil Arrays & Navigation System" was, to develop an improved magnetic resonance tomography for diagnostic imaging on different prostate diseases, to gain better tumor detection on prostate carcinoma as well as more favorable treatment conditions and history monitoring.
At the final hearing IBN stated that except for the originally planned clinical data recording (examination of test persons) technical individual targets have been achieved. Significant new product developments were a 32 channel receiver coil developed by GE and a "Phantom" (design model for surgery training and demonstrations) developed by SCHLEIFRING und APPARATEBAU GmbH.
